“Wise public officials should act immediately, guiding humanity away from the brink. If they do not, wise citizens must step forward and lead the way.”

(From the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists 2017 Doomsday Clock Statement)

OK, I’ve chosen you handful of friends to help me get the message that we are an endangered species spread as widely and quickly as I can. I’ve had a few interesting and amusing responses. But none of you have said that you have passed it on to anyone. Now I would like you to seize the chance to join the wise citizens mentioned above by asking two or three of your friends to open up the sillyoldblogger.blog read it and send it on to their friends so they too can join an ever growing band of wise citizens.

Oh, and maybe help to save us from nuclear oblivion……….

While you’ve got your fingers poised over the keyboard, it’s worthwhile pointing out that in the event of a full-scale nuclear war, there would be no-one who could be classified as winners. Even the leaders of the biggest, most powerful countries and the fabulously rich businessm magnates would have to emerge from their underground or tropical island hideaways eventually. They would soon face roving bands of the hungry, thirsty, dying, or desperately sick, in no mood to thank their former leaders for their skill in leading them to their present situation. So don’t turn aside, type away and do your bit! – if you don’t like my way, send your own email to a relevant politician, or maybe think of something else that might work, but don’t just shrug and give up, the threat is real, and it could happen soon.

    Let the sun rise tomorrow,

    Another golden dawn,

    Not a smoke-filled wasteland,

    Lonely and forlorn..

    For your children to inherit,

    Your grandchildren too,

And if by chance they did survive,

What would they think of you?

Raises a few questions, doesn’t it? Here’s a more considered opinion from my good friend Sim, who I shared drawing office space in as a Draftsmen in Tasmania’s  Hydro Electric Commission, and the author of one of the first responses to this blog, who opined that “A  nuclear war would be a solution to the over population problem.

    Silly Old Blogger,

You prompt me to read about the Doomsday Clock, which data makes you sleep less. Maybe old age is a factor in your ailment, as I have similar sleep difficulties without reading too much into the clock. My first take on the subject is that since conception in 1949, not much has been done by the enablers to stop the problems blamed for the approaching apocalypse at midnight. Remarkably, the remaining 89 seconds can be readjusted annually if certain actions are evident. Too little, too late, surely??

But if a day is 86,400 seconds long and it has taken from 1949 until now to degrade to 89 seconds remaining, then the linear rate of decay makes midnight so close that taking any reversing action now is pointless.  This is scaring our kids out of their cotton-picking minds!

World leaders do not recognise the threat and do nothing to affect this reported decay, yet individuals are asked to lose sleep over it!

Google tells us that our universe is 13.79 billion years old.

Scriptures tell us that everything is as willed by a God without substance, nor having a location, and we are all created in his image!          His??

Science suggests the homo sapiens first walked this earth 200,000 years ago and we evolved to our present miserable state. Now we are threatened with imminent extinction. No wonder the kids look to drugs!

Stop the world, I wanna get off!  –  Soon.

    As always, your friend, Sim
